On July 10, 1964, Urban Frank Meyer III was born in Toledo, Ohio. Urban, who grew up in Ashtabula, played minor league baseball for two years after completing high school in 1982.
He played defensive back for the University of Cincinnati at this time while studying for his bachelor’s degree in psychology. Meyer obtained his master’s degree in sports management from Ohio State University in 1988 after graduating in 1986.

Career
While attending university, Meyer served as a defensive back coach at Saint Xavier High School under Steve Rasso in 1985.
He was employed as a graduate assistant coach for tight ends at Ohio State after graduating from university. He studied under head coach Earle Bruce this time.
Meyer spent the following 13 years as an assistant coach at various universities, including Illinois State, Colorado State, and Notre Dame. During this time, he coached several future NFL stars, including David Givens.
After a short stint as an ESPN analyst, Urban returned to coaching with the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2011. His leadership enabled the Buckeyes to go undefeated in their debut season and win the Big Ten Football Championship Game in 2014.
