Sadly, Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of the well-known manga “Yu-Gi-Oh,” passed away in July at the age of 60. His body was found floating off the coast of Naga City in Okinawa, Japan.
According to a story, the well-known manga artist perished while assisting a U.S. Army officer in rescuing three individuals who were ensnared in a riptide at Mermaid’s Grotto, a renowned diving location.
A Japanese lady crying for assistance for her 11-year-old daughter and a U.S. soldier who was entangled in a whirlpool approximately 100 yards from shore was what Maj.
Robert Bourgeau, a scuba diving instructor, saw while instructing some students, he told Stars and Stripes.
Bourgeau remembered, adding that the soldier also managed to reach land, “I grabbed mom and I grabbed [the girl] and I just kicked for all life.”
Unbeknownst to Bourgeau, Takahashi also acted quickly to try to assist the woman and her daughter but ended up getting sucked into the maelstrom himself.
While Takahashi was never seen by Bourgeau entering the water, his students attested that they had a glimpse of him trying to assist before disappearing beneath the sea.
Bourgeau referred to Takahashi as “a hero.” He lost his life while attempting to save another.
