Top Gun 2, also known as Top Gun: Maverick, is one of the most eagerly awaited films of all time.

In the next sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, Tom Cruise's character flies the skies with younger pilots, bringing the 1980s into the contemporary day.

The release of Top Gun 2 has been postponed until June 26, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date was pushed up two days to June 24, a month before Top Gun: Maverick was pushed back to December 23, 2020.

The film was again postponed to July 2, 2021, a few months later in July 2020. Top Gun: Maverick was delayed until April 2021, when it was rescheduled on November 19, 2021.

The release date of the film has been pushed back from November 19, 2021 to May 27, 2022.

That's a six-month delay, which is yet another major setback for a film that has failed to find an audience since its inception. Hopefully, the latest delay will not dampen the anticipation for Top Gun 2.

There's also no assurance that May 27, 2022, will be the actual release date, as the film could be postponed again in the coming months.

Top Gun 2 necessitates a theatrical experience to really appreciate what makes it special, so it's understandable that Paramount would want to give it the finest release window possible.

However, three years is a long time, and the original excitement for the picture may have waned as a result of the several delays.

There's no doubt that Top Gun: Maverick will hit theatres eventually, but with a release date set for May 27, 2022, fans will have to wait a long time.
