11. Snake Island – Brazil

Ilha da Queimada Grande, 25 miles off the coast of Brazil, is called Snake Island for good reason. The Brazilian government has made it illegal to visit because there are simply too many deadly snakes inhabiting the island. In fact, the snake population is between 2,000 and 4,000, so it’s estimated that there could be one snake for every square foot of the island. The golden lancehead, a species of pit viper, can kill a human with just one bite if they’re not treated immediately.
