Early Life
Spielberg began his career as a young lad with a big imagination and ambition. On Dec 18, 1946, Steven Spielberg was born in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His mother, Leah Adherer, was a concert pianist, and his dad, Arnold Spielberg, was an electrical engineer who worked on computer development.
Steven was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona, and Haddon Heights, New Jersey. As a child, Spielberg would produce 8mm short films in Scottsdale.
At the age of 12, he made his first video, a train collision featuring his toy Lionel trains. Even back then, Spielberg dared to charge local youngsters 25 cents to see his numerous epics.
Spielberg received a prize at the age of 13 for his 40-minute war film “Escape to Nowhere.” He made his first feature-length picture, “Firelight,” when he was sixteen, and it was shown at his local cinema.
Career
His career didn’t start until he worked as an unpaid intern in the editing department at Universal Studios. During this period, Spielberg shot a twenty-four-minute short film called “Amblin” (a name he would later give to his production firm), which drew the attention of Sidney Shainberg, the vice president of production for Universal’s television division.
Spielberg became the youngest filmmaker in history to sign a long-term deal with a major studio. He dropped out of college to pursue the chance (but subsequently returned in 2002 to finish his BA in Film and Electronic Arts, as if he needed the qualifications to back up his field experience!)
He filmed episodes of Rod Sterling’s Night Gallery, Columbo, and Marcus Welby M.D. while attempting to become a television director. These endeavors were so successful that he was employed to shoot four television movies.
The first was the 1971 masterpiece “Duel.” A duel was such a hit that he was approached to helm the theatrical feature film “The Sugarland Express.” The film received a lot of excellent comments.
