Smiley was born in 1968 in Birmingham, Alabama, and had a difficult childhood. He lost his father when he was only six years old.
Smiley’s mother depended on her large family for support. Smiley was raised by his grandparents.

Smiley hosted the ComicView program on BET in the year 2000. Along with Showtime at the Apollo, he has appeared on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, HBO’s Snaps, The Nashville Network, Uptown Comedy Club, and Comic Escape.
Bernice Jenkins has a grandson named Rufus, who is a modern-day “Gangsta” stereotype. Smiley refers to him in “Two Of My Toes Fell Off” and another hoax phone call in which he dials a drugstore.
In April 2004, Smiley took over as the morning show host for radio station KBFB in Dallas, Texas. The broadcast includes the show’s signature prank calls, news, information, and the most recent hip-hop music.
