Michael Thomas Gminski is an American former professional basketball player and CBS Sports college basketball TV analyst. Gminski, who is of Polish ancestry, was inducted into the National Polish American Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
From 1977 through 1980, he played four seasons with the Duke Blue Devils. Throughout his junior and senior years, he led the team in scoring. Gminski was voted ACC Rookie of the Year (tied) in 1977, first-team All-ACC three years in a row (in 1978, 1979, and 1980), and ACC Player of the Year in 1979.

Early Life
Gminski attended Masuk High School in Monroe, Connecticut, where he graduated in three years. He is regarded as a pioneer in reclassifying, having graduated early to begin his college basketball career.
Career
He spent four seasons (1977–1980) with the Duke Blue Devils. He was the team’s leading scorer for the entirety of his junior and senior seasons. In addition to being named to the first team All-ACC in three different seasons (1978, 1979, and 1980), Gminski was also voted the ACC Player of the Year in 1979.
The NBA’s New Jersey Nets selected Gminski in the first round. From 1980 until 1988, he was a member of the Brooklyn Nets. In 1981, Gminski was playing in the Summer Pro League when he was elbowed in the back, resulting in an infection and blood clot.
He later played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Milwaukee Bucks. Throughout his career, he wore jersey No. 42 and only got to wear No. 43 (his Duke number) in his last eight games with the Milwaukee Bucks. In his final NBA game, he scored ten points.
With a stunning start to the 1990 season, Gminski and their teammates agreed that if the Sixers won 10 consecutive games, they would each get their ears pierced. When the team scored 12 in a row, he, Rick Mahorn, and the others were wearing diamond earrings to remember the achievement.
