On March 15, 1972, Mark Allan Hoppus was born in Ridgecrest, California. Hoppus grew up in a tiny desert hamlet where the people worked for the United States Department of Defense.
One of them was his father, who was involved in the plot of missiles and explosives tested at a nearby military facility.
Mark later referred to many of Ridgecrest’s other inhabitants as “strung-out meth-heads,” even though the majority of its members were military scientists.
Up to the time of his parent’s divorce when he was eight, Hoppus enjoyed a joyful upbringing. The little boy’s emotional toll was severe, and he ultimately moved in with his father in Monterey.
The fact is that Mark’s father spent much of his waking hours studying him from having many opportunities to spend time with him.

When Mark came to San Diego in 1992, his career officially began. Tom DeLonge had recently become acquainted with Hoppus’ sister, a high school student in San Diego.
The two future Blink-182 founding members grew close right away and started jamming in DeLonge’s garage.
They subsequently added drummer Scott Raynor and changed the name of their group to “Blink.” But Mark left the band after a disagreement with his fiancée.
Hoppus left the group briefly before being persuaded to return by DeLonge’s efforts to make a demo tape. Their band gained notoriety thanks to this demo tape, and they soon began playing their first live concerts.
A record label came next. Blink was prepared to release its debut album, “Cheshire Cat,” in 1995. As an independently published CD, it did well and was particularly well-liked among punks and skaters.
