Guillermina and Felipe Muniz had a son named Marc Anthony. His father was a part-time musician and a hospital lunchroom worker, while his mother was a stay-at-home mom.
Anthony is of Puerto Rican origin and grew up with his seven siblings in El Barrio, Spanish Harlem. He was named after the great Mexican singer of the same name, Marco Antonio Muniz.
Anthony started singing at a very young age and knew that he had to concentrate on his stage presence to become successful. Frankie Cutlass, a platinum producer and songwriter also grew up in the same region.

Anthony started as a freestyle and Underground New York house vocalist. He appeared in the films ‘Menudo’ and ‘Latin Rascals’ in minor roles. “Rebel,” his debut album, was published in 1988.
At the same time, he composed and produced songs for Sa-album Fire’s “Boy I’ve Been Told.” He also sang background vocals for Ann-single Marie’s “With or Without You,” Little Louie Vega and Todd Terry produced it.
In 1990, the producers of ‘Alongside or Without You’ gave Anthony another chance, and he composed lyrics and sang lead vocals on ‘You Should Know By Now’ with Chrissy I-eece.
