John Bernard Larroquette was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 25, 1947. His father served in the Navy, while his mother worked as a department store clerk.
John grew up as a musical child, growing up near New Orleans’ French Quarter. Throughout his high school years, he played both the clarinet and the saxophone, and he even formed a band with several of his classmates.
By his senior year, though, he had fallen in love with acting. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and temporarily worked as a radio DJ before focusing on acting.

“The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” was John’s first acting role in Hollywood. Although he never appeared on camera, he did record the film’s opening narration as a favor to his friend, director Tobe Hooper.
His acting career took a significant stride forward when he was cast as a series regular in the 1970s NBC comedy “Baa Baa Black Sheep.” Larroquette portrayed Bob Anderson, a WWII fighter pilot, in this show.
