Early Life

Iman Shumpert was born in Oak Park, Illinois, to Odis and L’Tanya Shumpert on June 26, 1990. He was the couple’s fourth son.

His father is a broker insurance, and his mother is a professor. When he was younger, he and his elder brothers began playing basketball in their backyard, and Iman would frequently defeat his brothers in the game.

Iman grew up obsessed with basketball and idolized Michael Jordan as a child. Carolyn, his aunt, was a huge basketball fan who accompanied Iman to games regularly.

Career

Iman Shumpert enrolled at Georgia Tech University in 2008 and was an integral component of the team from the start. During his first year of college, he was the fourth-leading scorer on the team, averaging 10.5 points per game.

During his second season, he was hampered by knee injuries and missed numerous games. Despite this, he made a great recovery and was awarded the season’s third-best player with an average of 10.0 points per game.

Iman was at his finest during his third year of college basketball. He averaged more than 17 points per game, becoming only the seventh player in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) history to do so. In addition, he retains the Georgia Tech record for most steals per game.
