Donald Cheadle was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1964 to clinical psychologist Donald Sr. and teacher Bettye. Colin and Cindy are his two younger siblings.
Cheadle’s family traveled around a lot when he was a kid. He attended Hartley Elementary School in Lincoln, Nebraska, and East High School in Denver, Colorado.
At the latter, he sang in the choir, sang in the school jazz band, and acted in plays and musicals. Cheadle received his academic education at the California Institute of the Arts, where he received a BFA in theater in 1986.
After appearing in the comedy picture “Moving Violations” in the mid-1980s, Cheadle became eligible for his Screen Actors Guild card.
