Narendra was born on March 18, 1982, in the Bronx, New York. The oldest child of doctors Sudhanshu Narendra and Dharamjit Narendra Kumar, who moved to the United States from India, he was raised in Bayside, Queens.
Before entering Harvard University in 2000, he completed his high school education at Townsend Harris High School in Flushing, Queens. He graduated with a degree in applied mathematics in 2004.

Narendra founded the Harvard Connection social media site with fellow Harvard University students Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss.
In Dec of 2002, the trio founded the platform. It allowed users to add others as friends, send messages to each other, and update their friends on their lives. They then renamed the platform ConnectU.
The group approached Mark Zuckerberg, a different student, about joining the platform’s team to contribute more complex code, in November of 2003.
Although he later changed the platform to thefacebook.com, which eventually became Facebook, he nonetheless approved.
Seeing a press release in “The Harvard Crimson,” the student newspaper at Harvard, in Feb 2004 informed the Winklevosses and Narendra of the existence of thefacebook.com.
They quickly recognized the code for Harvard Connection had been left inoperable and sent Zuckerberg a to cease and desist letter as a result.
They also lodged formal grievances with the Harvard Administration Board and the university’s president, Lawrence Summers. They charged Zuckerberg with violating the university’s honor code and student handbook.
Yet, both claimed that the matter was out of the school’s purview and recommended the students file a lawsuit. Then came several legal actions. They claimed Zuckerberg had violated their rights to their intellectual property. A protracted court battle would follow that.
