On Jan 14, 1969, he was born in Warren, Ohio, to James Grohl and Virginia Grohl. He began learning the guitar when he was twelve years old, but he despised the lessons he was given. As a result, he began teaching himself and playing in bands with friends.
He enrolled as a freshman at Virginia’s ‘Thomas Jefferson High School,’ and was elected vice-president of his new class. His mother, however, transferred him to ‘Bishop Ireton High School,‘ Alexandria, because his grades had suffered as a result of his drug addiction.
