Early Life
On July 16, 1967, in Irvine, California, John William (Will) Ferrell was born to Betty Kay (a teacher) and Roy Lee Ferrell Jr. (keyboardist for the band The Righteous Brothers.)
Will’s parents split when he was eight years old, owing mostly to his father’s travel and inability to provide a consistent wage at times.
As a result, Will had little interest in the entertainment industry, and his childhood ambition was to have a normal life and a secure career.
He attended Culverdale Elementary and University High School, where he was a kicker for the football team. He was also the captain of the basketball team and played soccer.
He claims that growing up in “boring” suburban California influenced his innovative sense of comedy. During his high school years, Ferrell developed an interest in acting by inventing humorous voices for the school’s regular morning announcements with a buddy.
Career
During his Saturday Night Live career, Ferrell featured in several films, including Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Superstar and The Ladies Man (all based on SNL characters), Dick, Drowning Mona, and Zoolander, among others.
After leaving SNL, his first leading role was as Frank “The Tank” Richard in 2003’s Old School. The role received critical praise, and the film was a big commercial success.
For his portrayal of Frank, Ferrell was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Comedic Performance. He was cast in Elf later that year and later appeared in movies like Starsky & Hutch and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. In 2005 alone, Ferrell earned $40 million.
Another significant year for Ferrell was 2006. He released three movies this year, all of which did well at the box office. These movies were Curious George, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Stranger than Fiction.
Ferrell and Adam McKay founded “Gary Sanchez Productions” at some point. The business was given the name Gary Sanchez in honor of a made-up financier from Paraguay.
Ferrell established the humor website “Funny or Die” in April 2007. Additionally, he starred in the on-site published short comedy film “Landlord.” More than 80 million people have watched the video since then.
After “The Landlord,” the video “Good Cop, Baby Cop” was broadcast. In 2007, he also had an appearance in “Blades of Glory.” Josh Gordon and Will Speck’s film, which received favorable reviews from both critics and spectators, was well-liked.
Will Ferrell had a busy year in 2008 because of many events. Along with writing the screenplay for “The Step Brothers,” he also co-starred in the film “Semi-Pro.”
He performed in this movie as one of the actors. Will Ferrell Answers Internet Questions was a new video that Ferrell debuted in September.
In 2020, he starred as ‘Pete Staunton’ in the black comedy-drama film ‘Downhill.’ The film, directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, premiered at the ‘Sundance Film Festival’ on January 26, 2020. He had a cameo appearance in the reality comedy film ‘Impractical Jokers: The Movie the same year.
