Monarch Cast: Who Are the Country Music Drama on Fox’s Leading Stars?
The Fox drama, which premieres on September 11, will feature Susan Sarandon as the Queen of Country Music, vowing to “do whatever it takes to safeguard the family.”
The Romans are a unique family who loves country music, and they are the focus of Melissa London Hilgers’ musical drama series “Monarch” on FOX. The lives of the Roman family members are profoundly changed when Dottie Cantrell Roman, the matriarch and a legend in country music, is diagnosed with cancer.
As the novel progresses, the ramifications and consequences of the same on the personal and professional lives of the other family members are examined. The stories and songs of Albie and Dottie Roman, as well as their children Nicolette “Nicky” Roman and Gigi Taylor-Roman, draw one into the characters’ lives and their adventures. Hollywood Aristocracy Susan Sarandon
Who better to play the “tough as nails” Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman on “Monarch” than a woman who has already attained the status of Hollywood royalty? Susan Sarandon.
Although she is most known for playing dramatic roles, many people still remember her for her comedic musical chops as Janet in one of her early movies, the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Others said the movie that affected them the most was “Thelma & Louise,” in which Geena Davis drives off a cliff.
Friel, Anna Nicolette Roman
Anna Friel, whose notable roles on the big screen include a 1999 Shakespeare adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Richard Donner’s sci-fi/medieval history thriller Timeline, and the 2005 soccer drama Goal!, plays Dottie’s daughter, “Nicky.”
The Dream Begins and its follow-up from 2007. One of her most recognizable roles is the revived Charlotte “Chuck” Charles on the brief (but beloved) romantic television series Pushing Daisies.
This role paved the way for other prominent positions on the big screen, such as Holly in the 2009 film Land of the Lost with Will Ferrell and Danny McBride or Limitless with Bradley Cooper.
Adkins, Trace Albie Roman
Trace Adkins, one of the most popular country music performers, portrays Dottie’s husband Albie, and is well-versed in the world of country music.
But before acquiring into acting in the early 2000s with guest appearances on shows like Yes, Dear as an inmate (along with fellow musician Travis Tritt), King of the Hill in the recurring role of Elvin Mackleston, and the My Name is Earl pilot as himself, he received his first screen credit as a “Bayou Member Of the band” in 1987’s Square Dance.
Along with Matthew McConaughey, he co-starred in the critically acclaimed films The Lincoln Lawyer in 2011; Deepwater Horizon in 2016; and I Can Only Assume in 2018, which chronicles the true tale behind the hit Christian song of the same name.
Joshua Sasse Luke Roman
Joshua Sasse, who previously displayed his musical talent as the title character of ABC’s medieval musical comedy series Galavant from 2015–2016, plays Luke, the son of Dottie and Albie and the CEO of their family business. Joshua made his acting debut in 2010 with the U.K. action film The Big I Am.
He then appeared in Frankenstein’s Army (2013), a brief cameo on the sci-fi sitcom The Neighbors, and the Canadian crime drama Rogue, where he also played the lead character.
After appearing as the male lead in the romantic comedy No Tomorrow on The CW, the British actor went on to perform in the Hallmark film Her Pen Pal in 2021.
Beth Ditto (Gigi)
Beth Ditto, who up until she went solo in 2016 was the lead vocalist of the indie rock band Gossip, is another musical performer in the Monarch ensemble (playing Gigi, the youngest Roman daughter).
Gigi received her first screen credit for a TV show called Nocturnal Animals that same year, but it wasn’t until Gus van Sant’s 2018 film Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot that she made her acting debut.
Ditto was cast as the lead in the Kirsten Dunst-starring Showtime comedy On Becoming a God in Central Florida the following year. In 2021, she had an appearance on an episode of the Dickinson historical drama on AppleTV+.
Pascual, Inigo (Ace Grayson)
Ace Grayson, Nicky’s adoptive teenage son, is talented and empathetic. He was raised in an orphanage. Playing Ace is Inigo Pascual.
On the Monarch cast, the young Filipino musician and actor makes his English-language debut appearance. His past works from the Philippines include the 2015 movie Crazy Beautiful You and the more current Boyette.
Emma Milan (Ana Phoenix)
Emma Milana plays Ana, Catt’s 17-year-old daughter, and aspiring singer. Following her appearances on five episodes of the Snapchat original Solve in 2020, Monarch is the young actor’s most recent significant part on a show.
She appeared in a few short films and the music video for Johnny Orlando and Mackenzie Ziegler’s “What If” before making her feature-length debut in the Lifetime original crime drama Dying to Be a Cheerleader.
When Monarch airs on Fox on Sunday, September 11, join the cast as they sing, dance, and celebrate. Then, starting on Tuesday, September 20, the series will air on those nights.
