Dyson Vacuum Cleaners
Dyson first proposed employing cyclonic separation in vacuum cleaners in the late 1970s. Frustrated with how quickly his Hoover became clogged with dust, he imagined a vacuum that would not lose suction while it sucked up dirt.
Dyson unveiled his G-Force cleaner in 1983, five years and over 5,000 prototypes later. However, British manufacturers and distributors refused to carry the product since it posed a significant threat to the replacement dust bag business.
As a result, Dyson marketed the device in Japan, where it won the International Design Fair Prize in 1991. He went on to establish his manufacturing firm, Dyson Limited, as well as a factory and research facility.
Dyson ultimately broke into the UK market in the mid-1990s, when he launched a television advertising campaign emphasizing his vacuum’s lack of the need for replacement bags.
The Dyson Dual Cyclone eventually became the fastest-selling vacuum cleaner in the UK, outselling many of the firms that initially opposed the idea.
The cleaner was also a huge success in North America. Dyson included a wheel ball in a new cleaner named Dyson Ball in 2005, which was designed for enhanced steering.
Later, in 2014, he introduced his 360 Eye robotic vacuum, which contains, among other things, 360-degree scanning and mapping for navigation.
